Challenge
PayBridge Solutions, a seed-stage fintech startup building payment infrastructure for rural India, needed urgent GST registration to onboard their first enterprise client. The startup had a complex business model involving SaaS subscription fees, transaction-based revenue, and consultancy services — each potentially subject to different GST treatment. Their internal team had attempted self-registration but was stuck at the document verification stage due to incorrect business classification. The startup was on a tight deadline — the client required a GSTIN within 10 days to issue the first purchase order worth ₹18 lakh.
Solution
Our GST experts evaluated the business model and classified each revenue stream under the correct HSN/SAC codes. We prepared and uploaded all required documentation, including the incorporation certificate, PAN, Aadhaar, bank statements, rent agreement for the registered office, and board resolution authorising the GST registration. We also advised on the optimal tax structure — composition vs. regular scheme — given their projected revenue mix. For the SaaS component, we recommended the correct tax rate (18% IGST for cross-border, 9% CGST+SGST for domestic). We also helped them draft the e-commerce operator disclosures required under the new GST rules.
RESULTS
GST registration was approved within 7 days — 3 days ahead of the client's deadline. The startup successfully onboarded their first enterprise client and received the ₹18 lakh purchase order. We also set up their monthly GST filing workflow, ensuring GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B are filed on time. The correct HSN/SAC classification saved them from potential future notices and penalties.
